Microtransactions in Video Games are the Biggest Waste of Money Ever

I really don’t understand why people buy things in multiplayer games that have no real value like this is one of the biggest problems that is has occurred to me in recent years is that so many people are not only really addicted to video games but they’re buying skins for guns and characters in games and especially in Fortnite where you’re buying skins of real life, people and cartoon characters in the same game and I don’t understand how they’re that people out there don’t understand how bad of a waste of money this is I mean, this is truly like blind robbery and people say like oh if you have the money, you should enjoy it. You should enjoy your money, but there’s no I don’t see the joy behind buying skins in games or just anything like virtual currency or fake things and games. It is to me. it is a blatant scam. It is really bad and the fact that kids are playing these games and they’re buying this stuff is just I mean it’s just it’s so bad. It’s just sounds like evil like with Roblox. They’re encouraging like underage, gambling and dating and it’s like do these people not understand that these are children that have no concept of the world yet and they’re wasting money on this garbage even like I said if you’re an adult, you should know better that this is not valuable like if you’re not spending your money buying something that’s gonna make you more money. This is a waste. This is a complete waste. There is no value. I don’t see the value in this. Some games might have opportunities to actually buy stuff in the game and then it could be worth real world money in the long run, but I would say about 90% of that is very unlikely. A lot of it is it is ridiculous. People need to be careful where they spend their money. They need to really grip onto it very tight because this is a serious problem with gaming today and it’s ruining games I mean solo gaming is the best especially when it doesn’t have stuff like this cause these micro transaction started with like mobile games where it’s like oh buy gems for Clash of Clans and back then it was really bad like it was a pretty pay to win game then and it’s still pay to win game now but now instead of just being a mobile game, it’s like you buy this game for 60 $70 and it’s still paid to win on top of that so you gotta pay to get the nice skins or you gotta pay for the vault edition of a game that’s not really finished like the value in games has definitely diminished and it’s not as great as it used to be so if you have like a low NGPU and you’re like oh I should upgrade well think about this. You still play tons of old games that are great. You don’t have to waste your time playing these a lot of these garbage multiplayer games with micro transactions and it’s just a lot of the times they are better. You spend a couple hours a night playing and you go do something else you go you know and make some money and not wasted on garbage. It’s just it is ridiculous. At the end of the day, gaming is supposed to be fun, but somewhere along the line, a lot of these companies stopped caring about making good games first and started caring more about keeping people addicted and spending money nonstop. Everything now is battle passes, limited-time skins, daily shops, premium currencies, and special editions before the game is even finished. It feels less like you’re playing a game and more like you’re being advertised to every five seconds.

And what’s crazy is people defend it. They’ll say, “Well, it’s optional,” but when entire games are designed around making you feel left out if you don’t buy something, that’s not really optional anymore. Especially for kids. Kids see everyone online with expensive skins and cosmetics, and they feel pressured to buy them just to fit in. That’s not gaming anymore. That’s manipulation.

I think one of the reasons older games were so much better is because developers had to make a complete game from the start. They couldn’t rely on endless updates and microtransactions to keep people interested. You bought the game, unlocked things by actually playing, and that was it. You earned cool armor, weapons, or characters through skill and time, not through your wallet. There was actually a sense of accomplishment.

Now, a lot of games don’t even feel rewarding anymore because everything is locked behind money. Even progression systems are designed to slow you down so you spend more. And honestly, it’s exhausting. That’s why so many people go back and replay older games. A lot of those older titles had soul. They were made to be fun first, not monetized first.

And I think people need to seriously think about where gaming is heading in the next few years. Imagine how bad this could get when AI, virtual reality, and even more advanced online systems become mainstream. Companies are going to get even better at keeping people addicted and spending money. If people already spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on skins now, imagine what it’s going to look like later.

That’s why I think it’s important to focus more on games that actually respect your time. Play games because they’re fun, because they have good stories, good gameplay, or good memories attached to them, not because they’re trying to pressure you into spending money every week. There are still amazing games out there if you actually look for them.

And honestly, one of the best feelings is just building a nice gaming setup, loading up a good single-player game after work or school, relaxing for a couple hours, and then moving on with your life. Not being trapped in endless grinding, endless battle passes, or nonstop multiplayer stress. Gaming should add to your life, not control it.
